- Banks are open from 7.30am or 8am to 11.30am and from 1pm to 4.30pm. Some banks are open on Saturday morning from 8am to 11.30am. Sunday is close.
- Post offices keep longer hours and are generally open from 6.30am to 9pm
- Offices, museums open between 7am and 8am and close between 4pm and 5pm
- Many of the small privately owned shops, restaurants and street stalls stay open seven days a week, often until late at night.

Public holidays are days when workers get the day off work. Prior to 2007, Vietnamese workers observed 8 days of public holiday a year, among the lowest in the region. On March 28, 2007 the government added the traditional holiday commemorating the mythical Hùng Kings to its list of public holidays, increasing the number of days to 9. As in most other nations, if a holiday falls during the weekend, it is observed on the following Monday.
